Minnesota, Day 3

originally blogged November 8, 2006

High: 71! Forget the heat wave, hell will be freezing over soon!

Elections are over. Only 1 Republican was elected in Minnesota. He's the governor. Poor guy. I ate breakfast in the hospitality suite at the hotel this morning and had a bit of a political battle withh some old liberal fart. I had a meeting-filled morning at work. One man coughed and blew mucus on my sweater. That was enjoyable. Another guy won't quit staring at me. I've become paranoid that I have something hanging from my nose?! It could just be the mucusy sweater. Slow afternoon installing software on my laptop.

I tried out a Mexican restuarant tonight. At at the bar. The female bartender was awe-struck with my accent. I couldn't tell if she was just enjoying listening to me talk or if she was interested in me. There were several homosexuals working there, so I just tried to play the sweet and innocent card. Houston - We have a Wal-Mart. This, my friends, is what its all about. I'm liking this place more everyday.

Oh - Also located a ski resort. Maybe I can find a local that wouldn't mind showin' me how they do that thing in MN.

Minnesota, Day 2

originally blogged November 7, 2006

High: 61 - what Minnesotans are referring to here as "A Heat Wave"

Got ready a little early, so I found breakfast. Some old dude hit on me. Got to work at 8. Met my new co-workers. Learned that the word tag is pronounced teg. (That one took me a while?) Toured a vendor facility where they make some of our equipment. had the worst BBQ of my LIFE. Got invited to go shooting with "The Shooting League" this afternoon - I politely declined. now sitting here typing. Oh - And they are predicting snow on Sunday. Gag.

Minnesota, Day 1

originally blogged on November 1, 2006

High: 43 and foggy

Slept the better part of the flight. Got a sweet 2-door, white Monte Carlo for my rental. Curious about the snow-scraper that was laying in the passenger seat? Found my unimpressive Holiday Inn free of problems. No microwave, no frig. Internet works great, but my work email doesn't. Stayed on the phone for an hour and a half with Corporate IT to get it fixed. (I hate when I don't have admin rights sometimes.) Instead of visiting the company museum, I stayed at the hotel while IT fixed my email. Learned about every politician's negatives. Have memorized all campaign ads....as I've seen them all several million times now.

Ventured out last night and learned the roads. Located the building I will primarily be working in and found Target right around the corner. (Very noteworthy, obviously). They have real Mexicans working at Taco Bell...NO HABLO INGLES! Came back to the hotel with my Taco Bell and watched the CMAs (including Faith's possible career goof!).

Drama, Drama, Drama

originally blogged October 29, 2006

Why do people try to drag me into their drama? I'm a pretty easy going, laid back woman. I don't ask for much, and I don't expect much. I try to be a dependable friend. As far as my love life is concerned, I don't worry about it too much...and if I don't worry about it, you shouldn't either! I figure...whatever happens, happens, right? The good Lord has told us to take all our worries to Him. Right? (1 Peter 5:7) So...that's one area of my life that I don't worry a whole lot with...and it's usually because I keep myself busy with other things. I admit, I get a little down when I spend too much time around disgustingly happy couples. But for the most part, I'm ok!

So here's my aggrivation...guys that WANT DRAMA in their lives! Why can't I get rid of these guys?? Because I answer yes/no questions (via text messages) with yes/no answer, I am apparently a bitch? If you need to talk to me, CALL ME! Quit bothering me with nonsense smalltalk! I don't get pissy when you don't call me or don't text me, so don't get upset if I don't have time to send you a detailed text about the past 2 months of my life. Obviously, you haven't been interested enough to talk to me for 2 months to call and talk for 3 minutes...so why the heck should I give you 3 minutes of my precious time? "How are you?" "Fine, thank you." Tell me, please, how that is me being a bitch. Ugh!

IN ADDITION! I have another certain someone that only talks to me, again, every few weeks. Everytime we talk, he gets mad because "You don't like to talk about sex." ARE YOU KIDDING ME?! Ok, first, I don't know you that well. Second, you just aren't that lucky. THEN...he accused me of being a lesbian? Do you need a copy of my resume? So I asked, "Why do you talk to me if you always just end up getting mad at me for some apparent reason?" His response, "You don't care about ANYTHING!" So....my response was, "Ok...so would you prefer if I were high maintenance and crazy dramatic about EVERYTHING?!" He quit talking to me at that point. Why do guys say that they want a woman that isn't high maintenance, has no baggage, and has no drama...but it seems, they really do! And if they do, then why the heck won't they leave me alone?! It's not like I'm just all of a sudden going to start dressing differently, pop out 2 youngins from 2 different men, and complain about every little thing I can think of. That's just not who I am. So ya know what, if that's your thing, then just leave me alone. It's not that difficult. I mean, yeah, I have a wonderful personality, cute smile, and a contagious laugh, and I could see why you'd really want to hang out with me, but I'm sorry. Those attributes are for those individuals who are anti-drama and anti-worry warts!

If you've made it this far, congratulations. I hope you don't think I'm against the possibility of love...because I'm not. I want to fall in love someday and have a family...but I don't want my life filled with constant bickering and childish ways. And for that reason, I want to take my time and make sure I'm making the best decision possible. He will come along. Or maybe he already has and he just needs to figure that out. :) And I'm ok with that.

Christmas Times'a'Comin'

originally blogged September 22, 2006

So I'm beginning to get Christmas fever already!!! I think it's the cooler air coming in during the past week that's got me all festive inside. I'm a dork, right? I *LIVE* for that one day a year that my family gets together and just does absolutely nothing together.

I've not gone so far as buying any gifts yet, but that's just right around the corner! Tracy and I decided to do a little shopping this evening, so I might find a thing or two that might manage to find itself under my Christmas tree. :)

Steel-Toe Woes

originally blogged September 22, 2006

I think the biggest adjustment I'm having to the new job is the shoes! The first week was miserable because I would rather have cut off my little toes on each foot to give me some relief from these bloomin' shoes!

As time has gone on, it's getting better, but I can honestly say the thing I miss most about my old job was the ability to wear flip-flops whenever the heck I wanted to!

It's Official

originally blogged on August 14, 2006

Yeah. It's finally official. I'm leaving my job for another. I start work at 3M in Decatur on 28 August. On a less exciting note, due to the job change, I will no longer be able to help coach softball next season. I'm really going to miss that, but I think in the long run, I will have made a good decision.

So, if you're in Decatur, hollar at me sometime! I'll be over there quite a bit very soon! :)

Continental Airlines Sucks

originally blogged July 6, 2006

That's right! I said it. Continental Airlines SUCKS. Here's my recent beef with the airline. on June 19, I was scheduled to fly out of Huntsville to Killeen, Texas (Ft. Hood) with a connection in Houston. Granted, Houston had a pretty bad rain that day, and I could understand a small delay...but 8 hours? Come on! We found out later on that the airline lied to us. They didn't have a pilot to fly the plane! So...I sat at Huntsville International Airport until 2:30PM for a flight that was originally scheduled for 6:30AM. Obviously, I missed my flight in Houston, so I didn't get another flight until later that night...finally arriving at my hotel around 9PM.

As if that wasn't bad enough...I was scheduled to LEAVE Ft. hood that Thursday. Well...I make my 11AM flight from Killeen to Houston without problems. When I got to Houston, I'm supposed to depart again at 3:40PM. 4 o'clock finally rolled around (again - this is Continental Airlines)....and I walke up to the attendant desk and asked what was going on. I had been sitting at the gate for 3 hours reading a book....and no one had announced anything. The attendant said, "Oh...that flight has changed gates!" I'm like, "WHAT THE CRAP!? You still have the flight on the scroll, and you didn't announce anything!" So...regardless...I went to the gate that I was supposed to now be at. When I arrived at the gate (which by the way is now in a different terminal), I'm informed that my flight has been cancelled due to weather! It was rainy in Houston that day, but CONTINENTAL AIRLINES was still flying out to Memphis, Chattanooga, and other surrounding areas. I called home and my parents told me that the weather was fine in Huntsville. So...once again, the airline had lied to me somewhere about something. Then they told me that the next flight they could get me on was SATURDAY! This was THURSDAY! I was like, "Are you ******* kidding me!?" I told them they would just have to put me on another airline. Their response was "Because this is weather related, we cannot be responsible for putting you on another airline." Oooooomygoodness. So, I called my boss, got the ok to move forward...called the travel agent...and $850 later, I'm on a flight out of Houston at 7:30 going to Atlanta on Delta Airlines. Unfortunately for me, when I arrived in Atlanta, there would be no flights going into Hutnsville that I could get on because they were all booked. So - I had to rent a car and drive a whopping 4 hours. I ended up getting home around 3AM on Friday morning.

Moral of the story: Don't fly with CONTINENTAL AIRLINES! They'll lie and cheat just to make a buck.

Latest Update

originally blogged on May 12, 2006

So far, so good. I'm in my new house. Things are coming together. Life is good. I mowed my yard yesterday for the first time since I've been here. It's all nice and neat now. I'm a bit sore this morning, so I've scheduled myself for a massage very soon! That's what I get for having a sloping driveway I guess.

The softball team plays Athens this weekend in a best of 3 tournament. The winner travels to Montgomery next weekend for state tournaments. Say a little prayer for them!

Hope everyone has a safe and fun weekend! And for all of you people that just got back from vacation...you officially suck. My vacation will be my one hour massage at Terrame. :)

Dazed and Confused

originally blogged on April 24, 2006

Do you ever have those days that you just go through the motions? I mean, I know that I woke up at precisely 5AM. I know I took my shower because I'm clean. I know I ate breakfast because I'm full. I know I got reay for work because my clothes are pressed and clean...(and on my body). I know I drove to work because I'm here. I know I checked email because everything says 'read'. I know I did my morning server checks because I reported them to the proper individuals. And I swear I don't remember any of it. What makes us do things like this? I think it's just that I have so many things on my mind right now that focusing on one thing just isn't in the cards this morning.

Here's my current frustration: liars. Do people think I'm really stupid? (No comments necessary here.) I can tolerate people who admit to their errors; however, when you goof...and then LIE about it?!?!....that's a problem. In my eyes, that is probably one of the worst habits to have. I guess because I'm so brutally honest at times, I expect the same in return.

Anyway....I'm sure you guys really care to listen to my venting. Oh yeah! My mother and I caught a nice 6lb catfish yesterday at Guntersville Lake. Sweeeeeet.

The Cost of Hail (Hell?)

originally blogged on April 20, 2006

It's official. My car is just having a bad year alltogether. If you've read any of my other blogs about this poor little car, you'd probably think it looked like a big 'ole piece of crap. Oddly enough, it still looks like a nice vehicle, and it still runs perfect (knock on wood).

So, 2 weeks ago, my friends Russell and Andrew and I were at O'Charley's on a Friday night. It was stormy, but it appeared that most of the storms were going north of Decatur. So - of course, I wanted to go out, and they just kinda tagged along with me. We hadn't been sitting in the restaurant for more than 15 minute when all HELL broke loose. That's when the 50-60 mph winds began blowing and the rain turned to ice...and the ice began shooting from the sky like little bullets. Evidently, there was a big red target sign on my car because the poor thing just sat there helplessly as the hail pelted the passenger side, roof, hood, and trunk.

From the looks of everything after the fact, the damage didn't appear to be that bad, but I figured I'd go have an estimate done from honda anyway just to see how much $ I'm looking at asking the insurance company for. $4900!!! I couldn't believe it! so, it's looking like I'll have the damage fixed which will include 2 new passenger side doors, a new front fender, new hood, and paintless dent removal on my room, trunk, and driver's side door. Crazy, huh?

Moral of the story: If it's stormy, STAY AT HOME. Those storms can be sneaky little bastards.

Today's a Good Day

originally blogged on April 20, 2006

Well, lots going on this week. First, I help coach one of the best high school softball teams in the state of Alabama. I'll just go ahead and say it. :) Both on the field and off, these girls are great. yeah, some of them act pretty spoiled at times, but I guess when I was their age, I probably was very much like that too. They really have the ability to win a state championship this year. We just gotta get everyone peaking at the plate at the same time...and we'll be good to go!

I close on my house one week from Monday! I'm pretty excited. I've got all of my colors picked for painting, and I bought a new living room suite this past weekend. Everything is just kinda coming together. It's a great sense of accomplishment.

Work is picking up a little. It's been rather slow for the past month or so, but in a way, it was nice because of everything else that's going on in my life. Unfortunately, I've not had much time for a social life, but that's allllll about to change. I'm about to start getting myself back in the gym everyday and be the person I usually am!

Anyway~ I hope you're all doing well, too. I know a lot of you are about to be going on vacations to far off beaches. Just remember me while you're gone. I might not have a trip to look forward to, but I have a 1/2 acre of land to look forward to mowing every week. :) Have safe trips!

Home? at last

originally blogged on April 5, 2006

So I finally did it. I've purchased a home. My closing date is officially May 1, 2006. Thankkkkkkkkkkk goodness!

It's a 3BR/2BA full brick rancher in a little neighborhood in East Limestone. I'll have a 1/2 acre lot...that I'll need to finish the fence on soon so I can have a big puppy dog! It's only about 1400 square feet, but I think it's just my size. :)

About June'ish, there will definitely be some celebrating going on...after the many hours of painting occurs, so get ready to have a good time!!

All Good Things Must Come to an End

originally blogged on February 24, 2006

Today is a good day. The weather is beautiful, work is moving right along, and I feel good! Perhaps it's because I got myself out of bed eary to go to the gym this morning...nevertheless...

Today is the girls' first softball game. I'm really excited and hope they do great. Say a little prayer that they'll all be kept safe and healthy!

Softball season is full of good times, good friends, good laughs, and in some cases, sad times. Hopefully our sad times will be limited because last year took a toll on the entire team...including your's truly.

However, sad times for me are in the things in my life that are being put on hold for a few months due to coaching. This includes my Friday night tradition with my cousin Jeremy's wife, Tracy...our once-a-week catch-up dinner and drinks at O'Charley's in Decatur. We've grown to be great friends over the past year, and I hate to see that time together ending...at least for a little while. Not only that, but I've made so many friends there that work there and hang out there that I won't be seeing for a while. :( In addition, my mother and step-dad are moving the camper back to the lake today! I'm going to miss 2 good months of camping and fishing with the family. Of course, I'll still be able to go over there during the week when I want, but it isn't the same when there's no one there to spend my time with.

All in all, I think we are going to have a very successful season...possibly a state championship?! the girls, I think, are prepared both mentally and physically. They've exceeded my expectations already, and I look forward to each day I spend with them. I think they keep me young. They've become more like my little sisters than just the kids I coach. And if you're one of my players reading this...know that you have 4 coaches that care so much about you...even if you think you're ready to kill us somedays. :)

We'll be playing at the SportsPlex all weekend in the HHS Panther Tournament (that obviously we're hosting). If you need something to do, come out and cheer them on!

Please Grow Up

originally blogged on February 5, 2006

When I was in junior high and high school, there was always a certain group of girls and guys that would pretend to be my friends and then they would end up just playing mean tricks on me...such as prank calling me at home...making me look stupid in front of a crowd...you know, the usual immature teenager crap. Even then, I really didn't understand why people would want to act like that...and now that I've gotten older and more mature, I am still baffled by it.

Well, I got a phone call today from an individual that I continue to want to be friends with because he's a pretty loveable guy...most of the time. However, sometimes I feel like he's still in that immature teenager stage...like he has to make fun of other people to make himself look better. And really, I just don't understand why. He's 25 years olf for crying out loud. He has a lot going for him, and he'd have even more going for him if he'd try to make everyone feel important...no matter who they are.

So, I heard a girl laughing in the background of the phone call, and when I asked who she was, he said he was "with a lot of friends." Granted, I don't know why the hell they felt the need to call me to talk to me on the subject that they did, but it sure sounded like an attempt to make me look stupid. He even went so far as to tell me that he tried to text message me and that he remembered my cell phone wouldn't pick up at my house....so, he went the EXTRA mile to make me look dumb. For that, I am forever grateful. Thank you.

At what age will people get out of their high school-lovin', immature acting, shallow-living lives? It's just not worth it. Burning bridges is definitely not the way to live and neither is hanging out with mean people. I just hate seeing people being hateful and hurtful toward other people because I know how self-conscious it made me feel for a very long time.

I just still don't understand why some people seem to never grow up. Unfortunately, I guess he's just one of those people that I always thought I wanted to be friends with but really...my friendship means nothing to him.

I Don't Get Sick

originally blogged on February 2, 2006

Ok, so softball practice started on Monday. Yeah, it's cold as hell outside (is that possible?), but that's just the way it is. So Tuesday morning, I woke up with a sore throat. I'm the I don't get sick type, so naturally, I made my way to Walgreens first thing and picked up some Theraflu, cough drops, and a side of chloroseptic spray. I had two very nasty cups of Theraflu on Tuesday...and practice again Tuesday evening...even colder and windier (if that's a word) than Monday. Wednesday morning...no more sore throat, but my nose can't figure out if it wants to run or stop up. So, here I sit on Thursday with a developing hacky-cough and a runny/stopped-up nose. Oh, and my eyes won't quit watering. BUT I'M NOT SICK! This is simply a mere adjustment to my new climate for the next 3 months. ;)

Saturday Night Whoas

originally blogged on January 7, 2006

Well, it's official. all of my friends are either married or about to be. (How's that for a Captain Obvious moment?) The source of my entertainment for the past several weekends has been Gizmo. That's right. Gizmo. My psycho, stuffed-animal loving shih-tzu, Gizmo. While everyone else is at home gettin' lovin' from their significant others, here I sit. Again. With Gizmo. And he's already asleep in his bed. What a trooper.

Tonight, one of my favorite bands, 17th Floor (www.17fl.com) is playing in Huntsville. How many of my buddies wanted to go with me? None. I have to believe that deep down, they really would like to still hang out with me, but sadly, people do change.

This message should be disregarded by Jeremy and Tracy. They're probably THE coolest couple I know. :) I mean, I have a toothbrush AND a holder for it at their house! (That's a big deal). And I gotta admit, I usually have more fun with them on our jager-drinking outings than I do sitting at home with the Giz. (Sorry buddy).

So, if 17th Floor is in town again, and you really really want to go, but just can't find someone that shares that same enthusiasm...let me know! Stipulation: You must like jager.

Carpooled this time, but...

originally blogged on December 29, 2005

Last night, I had dinner in Decatur with some friends of mine from work. before we went, we all met up at Tanna's house there in Decatur. Beatiful home, finger foods, friends, etc. It was very nice. Well, we decided to leave for the restaurant and everyone was picking out who they were riding with. Tanna asked if I would like to ride with her and Al, to which I thanked them and went along. Al, bless his heart, cranks up his new Envoy and begins to back out of his paralleled parking spot.....and then BAM. Wouldn't you know, my poor little Civic...only having been out of the body shop for 1 week, was hit, yet again. Luckily, no visible damage this time. And I should mention that Al's Envoy has a clean bill of health as well.

Moral of the story: Carpooling ain't all it's cracked up to be.

Should'a Carpooled

originally blogged on December 9, 2005

Well, last night was my official first wreck involving me AND another vehicle. Unfortunately, the other vehicle belongs to my aunt, Bonnie. So yeah, we were on our way to Living Christmas Tree practice driving separately. She was trying to avoid from being rear-ended by a car behind her. In doing so, she thought that I had already pulled out onto the Parkway, so she punched her gas to get out of his way...when she was suddenly stopped by the bumper of my little Civic. We're both doing fine, but both cars are going to need some repair.

Moral of the story: Never pass up an opportunity to carpool.

Pick a date, any date...

originally blogged on December 6, 2005

Ok, so I've been patient, right? I was told in August that my contract would end at the end of September. Then, at an interview for my own job, I was told that the contract had been extended through December so they didn't need to interview me. (That's a whole 'nuther story.) Well, here it is, December. At first, it was December 1...which came and went. On December 2, it was December 5...which also came and went. Here it is 6 December, and I still do not have a job come 2 January!

I mean, I've been pretty relaxed about it till now 'cause I figured they'd get around to it, but my goodness! Time is runnin' out, folks! The clock is ticking! I want vacation time, you want vacation time, I want a job, you want a job! I'm not asking for much! Just something on paper that says "verily verily, we want you to work for us on January 2 for the next 5 years."

My Contract is Going to End this Christmas!

originally blogged on December 2, 2005

My Contract is Going to End this Christmas, by Beth Russell
(to the tune of It's Beginning to Look a Lot Like Christmas)

My contract is going to end this Christmas.
Soon the bills will come;
My VISA can stand no more, do not go in that store
You'll understand next month why I'm a bum.

My contract is going to end this Christmas
I'll have to sell my car;
The gasoline is crack, tires need to go front to back
And the steering wheel has acquired a funny jar.

An offer that will tell of a job that will pay well
Is the wish of this contractee.
Purses that will shine and cell phones that will chime
Are of no interest to me.
A house would be nice, but that's my only plea!

My contract is going to end this Christmas
Jobs have been turned down;
There was the one working with CIMS, and the other working for Jim
But the opportunities are long passed now.

My contract is going to end this Christmas
Say a prayer for me;
That the VISA will get paid, and my car will be ok
And that I'll have a job come January!!!

UT Fans STILL talking Smack

originally blogged on November 22, 2005

Ok, so I work with 2 of the world's largest Tennessee fans. Granted, I picked on one of them pretty good after Alabama beat Tennessee 6-3...but it was ONLY because I lost a bet last year and had to wear an ugly orange jersey to work!!

So yesterday, I get to work, and the other guy, Brad, walks up to me and is giving me hell because Auburn beat Alabama. Ya know, Auburn deserved that game. Our offensive line looked horrible! NEVERTHELESS! Did anyone watch the Vandy game this weekend? I didn't see the Tennessee game, but I definitely saw the Vandy one.

GO COMMODORES!
